Prepare a picture of/book about/a toy Dog in advance
Say: Look at this animal. (Show a picture of Dog.) This is a mammal.
Remember, to be classified as a mammal, an animal should have hair or fur, mammary glands (mammal mothers nurse their young with milk), lungs and need air to breathe. Mammals that live on land are warm blooded, have 4 legs and ears that stick out.
This mammal is called DOG. The bodies of dogs are covered with fur.
All dogs have four paws and one tail. Remember, all animals move! Legs help dogs move and run. Dogs breathe with short, quick breaths, typically from exertion or excitement. It is called panting. Let’s pant like a dog!
Let’s find its mouth, fur, legs, paws, tail and whiskers. It’s fur plays an important role. A dog's coat may be a double coat, made up of a soft undercoat and a coarser topcoat. Topcoat is made of stiff hairs to help repel water and shield from dirt, and an undercoat serves as an insulator in winter. Primarily, dogs regulate their body temperature through panting, and sweating via their paws. The coat of most dogs grows to a specific length and then stops growing.
Look at the body of a dog. It has brown, chocolate, red, yellow, black and white colors. The muzzle has whiskers. They are located above the dog’s eyes, below his jaws, and on his muzzle. They are sophisticated sensing organs. They can detect air currents, subtle vibrations, and objects in the dark.
The jaw is big and strong. It is a part of the body the dog eats and drinks water with. Dogs use jaws for attacking, holding, and tearing their food.
Look at those claws on their feet! They are very sharp. Dogs have paws that work as shock absorbers and help protect the bones and joints in the foot. Paws work like brakes, of sorts, and help the dog navigate slippery or steep slopes. Dogs are highly variable in height and weight.
Remember that dogs are living things. They need energy to live. Dogs are predators and scavengers possessing sharp teeth and are carnivorous. It means they eat animal-based foods.
Mama-dog also known as bitch lays puppies. Usually they have 6 puppies. After being born, puppies are blind, deaf and toothless, unable to regulate body temperature, or even urinate or defecate on their own. Puppies depend on their mother and littermates for warmth, huddling in cozy piles to conserve body temperature.
That’s why mamas and papas take a very good care of the little ones. They provide food and make sure their environment is safe.
It is interesting that Dogs can produce 10 different sounds. Dogs have around 1,700 taste buds compared to humans with around 9,000.
Dogs are found throughout the world.
Dogs are popular pets, too. It means many people have them live in their houses.
We need to take care of Dogs and treat them with respect because they are living things just like us, people.
