brown bear, eagle, lynx, squirrel, fox, skunk - coniferous forest

Prepare a picture of/book about/a toy coniferous forest, brown bear, eagle, lynx, squirrel, fox, skunk - coniferous forest in advance,

(Show the picture of a coniferous forest) Say: Coniferous forests occur in cold northern regions characterized by long cold winters and short summers. Although there is a lot of precipitation, most of it falls as snow. The cold winters accompanied by heavy snowfall make it difficult for animals to survive. Many birds migrate to warmer regions in winter, while the mammals may hibernate or develop heavy winter coats.

(Show the picture of a brown bear) Say: Brown bears are big animals with either light or dark brown fur. Tails are short and not well seen among their fur. They have concave faces, a distinctive hump on their shoulders, and long claws. Bears mainly feed on various plants, seeds and berries. Insects and their larvae are good for them but honey is their favorite feed. Brown bears help ecosystems by distributing seeds and nutrients through their scat.

(Show the picture of a fox) Say: The fox is a nocturnal mammal, meaning that it only goes out at night to hunt for prey. The red fox has red fur across the face, back, sides and tail. The throat, chin, and belly are grayish-white. This animal has black feet and black tipped ears. One of the most noticeable characteristics of the red fox is the white tipped tail.

(Show the picture of a lynx) Say: The lynx is a medium-sized cat characterized by its long ear tufts, flared facial ruff, and short, bobbed tail with a completely black tip. It has unusually large paws that act like snowshoes in very deep snow, thick fur and long legs; its hind legs are longer than its front legs, giving lynx a stooped appearance. Although the lynx is a ground mammal, they are often known to climb trees or swim in order to catch their prey.

(Show the picture of an eagle) Say: The eagle is a large sized bird of prey meaning that the eagle is one of the most dominant predators in the sky. Eagles have very large hooked beaks, strong muscular legs, and powerful talons. Eagles' eyes are extremely powerful, which enables them to spot potential prey from a very long distance. Eagles are admired over the world as living symbols of power, freedom, and transcendence.

(Show the picture of an squirrel) Say: Squirrels are generally small animals that typically have slender bodies with bushy tails and large eyes. Their fur is soft and silky. Like other rodents, squirrels have four front teeth that never stop growing so they don't wear down from the constant gnawing. Squirrels are very trusting animals, and are of the very few wild animal species which will eat out of a person’s hand.

(Show the picture of an skunk) Say: Skunks are mammals known for their ability to spray a liquid with a strong odor. They have long, bushy fur which is black with white stripes that start at their forehead and extend down the length of their body in a V shape, meeting again at the base of their tail. Their long, bushy tails are sometimes striped, but more often the tail fur is a mixture of black and white hairs. They have short, stocky legs and small ears.

Out of all of the forest types, coniferous forests are thought to have been the least affected by humans and deforestation. This is thought to be because the trees that grow within coniferous forests are softwood trees and so are only really used in the production of paper.
