small versus large

Place 2 objects in front of the baby: small and large. For example small and large spoons. Talk about each object: name it, explain its purpose, and describe the opposite attribute. For example: point to the first small spoon. Say: this is a spoon; people use it to feed themselves and to measure some substances. Look at its size: it is small! Then point to another large spoon. Say; this is a spoon, too. People may use it for measuring purposes or for feeding themselves. Observe the size: it is large! Large! Large and small are the opposites. Take the large spoon in the right hand and the small one in the left. Stretch hands to the sides. Say: large spoon. Move the right hand a little bit higher than the left. Then lower it back. Say: small spoon. Move the left hand a little bit higher than the right. Then lower it back.
