Prepare a picture of/book about/a toy savanna, zebra, rhino, giraffe, hippo, lion, gazelle, ostrich in advance
Say: look at this dry grassland (Show a picture of a savanna.)It´s a savanna! Remember, A savanna is a hot seasonally dry grassland with scattered trees. The savanna has a large range of highly specialized plants and animals. They all depend on the each other to keep the environment in balance. Because the savanna is so rich in grasses and tree life, many large herbivores (plant eaters) live there and congregate in large herds. These include zebras, elephants, giraffes, ostriches, gazelles, and buffalo. There are also many powerful predators roaming the savanna including lions, hyenas, and leopards.
(Show the picture of zebra) Say: Zebras are distinguishable by their distinctive black and white striped coats. These stripes are a form of camouflage. Although the pattern is visible during daytime, at dawn or in the evening when their predators are most active, zebras look indistinct and may confuse predators by distorting true distance.
(Show the picture of rhino) Say: Rhino's body is wide with a square muzzle adapted for grazing. It has a thick, hairless, protective skin. Rhinos rank among the most endangered species on Earth. Valued for their horns, they face a serious threat from poaching.
(Show the picture of hippo) Say: Hippos are one of the largest land mammals. They are vegetarians and may travel long distances during the night from their water source to reach the areas where they graze. They have gray, mostly hairless skin with pink bellies and pink around their mouths, eyes and ears. Despite their enormous size, hippos are surprisingly fast.
(Show the picture of giraffe) Say: Giraffes are the tallest of all land living animals. When giraffes walk, they move both legs on one side of their body and then both legs on the other side; this is unique to giraffes. Giraffes have a great effect on the trees that they feed on, delaying the growth of young trees for some years and giving "waistlines" to trees that are too tall.
(Show the picture of gazelle) Say: Gazelle are smart, adaptive and robust creatures. They are highly alert and sensitive to the presence of other animals. Gazelles are constantly on the lookout and have relied heavily on their eyesight, which is excellent due to their large eyes.
(Show the picture of lion) Say: The lion is known as one of Africa's most iconic animals. These kings of the jungle have strong, compact bodies and powerful forelegs, teeth, and jaws for pulling down and killing prey. They are mainly nocturnal and work in teams to stalk and ambush prey.
(Show the picture of ostrich) Say: The savannas and deserts of Africa are home to the planet's largest bird, the ostrich, which is incapable of flight. These enormous birds, which generally grow to be taller than a human, are capable to breaking into a run at 43 miles an hour to elude a predator. When fully grown, an ostrich has one of the most advanced immune systems known to mankind.
Savannah regions have two distinct seasons, a wet season and a dry season. There is very little rain in the dry season. Animals have to adapt to the long dry period; they migrate great distances in search for food and water.
