Kitchen time

Say: Now it’s kitchen time! Let’s go to the kitchen and look for a colorful vegetable! Let’s walk to the kitchen! Make the walk fun .Sing (roses are red, violets are blue!) while walking with him….say: here we are. This is our kitchen where we can learn more and more nutrition lessons! Now we are going to the table where I have already placed a new kind of vegetables! Say: “Let’s sit at the table and discover its secret!” Put the baby in the seat and approach the seat next to the kitchen table. Put the “cabbage” in front of him to have a closer look at it, also to feel its texture between his hands! Sit next to the baby. Point to the vegetable and say: “Purple cabbage!” Purple cabbage is similar to green cabbage, but with dark reddish-purple leaves. Its flavor is a little deeper and earthier with a crunchy taste. We love its color in coleslaw and leafy green salad mixes. Besides lending itself as a food of art, adding wonderful color in salads and main dishes, purple cabbage with its antioxidant properties also works wonders for the skin and prevents cancer.  The deeper pigmentation in purple cabbage indicates a richer supply of anthocyanins, which can help lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration and many other diseases. The potential health benefits of purple cabbage are truly impressive. This tasty plant is loaded with a range of health benefiting nutrients and phytochemicals, including vitamin C that  is an effective antioxidant. It protects cells from the DNA and compositional destruction that metabolic toxins often cause. Purple cabbage is also packed with vitamin K, although it does not contain quite as much of this heart health boosting nutrient as green cabbage. . Hold up the” cabbage” and say: ”purple!” This cabbage is purple! It’s a purple cabbage! Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic. With a personality color purple, you are a visionary, with high ambitions, dreams and desires, and a compulsion to help humanity and to improve the planet earth. Take one of the leaves; put it in front of the baby and say: Here you are! Experience the crinkly texture of this purple leaf! The baby will take it with both hands stare at it, pass it from one hand to another, turn it upside down, and finally put it in his mouth and start licking or sucking it. Say: Hey! What did you use to feel the crinkly texture of cabbage? Sure, you used your hands to feel the texture. Now, take a bite of the leaf, chew it and say:  Purple cabbage has a slight bitter/sweet flavor, with crunchy consistency!! Give it back to the baby and let him take a little bite of the leaf, Ask: Did you like it, sweetie? Do you find it bitter or sweet? I think you agree with me it is crunchy with slight bitter/sweet taste! Point to the baby’s mouth and ask: What organ did you use to taste the cabbage? Yes!! You used your tongue to taste! Say: Well done, Champ! You have done good work today…and now it’s time to play.
