Kitchen time

Say: Now it’s kitchen time! Let’s go to the kitchen and look for some seeds to do an interesting activity! Let’s walk to the kitchen! Make the walk fun. Sing (If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands) while walking with him, say: here we are. This is our kitchen where I have already covered the table with newspaper and prepared what we will need to do today’s activity! (By the way, I soaked some “linseeds” in water for two days. After this soaking, I put them in a plate in order to plant them today) Say: have you seen! There are many kitchen and gardening items around. Say: “Before we sit at the table, we will approach next to the window where we placed the previous seeds”! Point to the”wheat glass” say: Look sweetie, there is a bud peeking from the opposite side of the roots, so the seedling will be well seen by tomorrow! Look at the roots baby; they are longer and thicker today! Now look at the “lentil glass” Say: Hey!! It seems that some fine roots start to appear and something else will appear soon! I think a bud will peek tomorrow!” Put the baby in the seat and approach the seat next to the kitchen table. Look at the plates next to you, you can see different kinds and colors of seeds, (point to the first plate) say: these are “lentils” these lentils are red. Point to the second plate and say: here we have some” linseeds”. Linseeds are brown! These seeds are big! (Point to the third plate) They are sunflower seeds. They are black with white stripes. Seeds come in all shapes, sizes, and types. (Approach each plate next to the baby and allow him to play and feel the texture of each kind of seeds) Say: There are some seeds that are so tiny, they look like dust.  Other seeds, though, can be as big as a basketball! Have you ever wondered how a seed becomes a plant? Now is your chance to find out! You get to grow a plant from a seed! Say: Seeds remain asleep until they are given soil, water, and light. In fact, all plants need certain things to grow, including: room to grow, the right temperature, light, water and nutrients! Say: so we are ready now to start our work! We will plant “linseeds today”! To plant seeds we need: seeds, transparent glass, and watering can! (Show the baby each item as you are naming it). Let’s start! Place a glass on the table next to the baby. Say: I will use the glass as a container to plant the seeds in. Finally, (take the baby’s hand in your hand) Say: Let’s take some seeds and throw them in this transparent glass. After throwing the seeds, hold the glass up and point to the seeds at the bottom and say: “These seeds need water!” Help the baby carry the tiny watering can and pour some water in the glass. Say: we will use this funny tiny watering can to add water to our seeds everyday! Now, we will find a sunny spot to place the glass and keep watering the seeds everyday! When you water the seeds, the seeds will begin to germinate. You can clearly see the growth of roots and then the shoots or “seedlings”! Remember that it takes time to grow and care for plants. Ask: Did you like today’s activity, baby? Was it interesting? I think you have concentrated enough today that you are waiting anxiously to play! Let’s play!!!
