Prepare a picture of/book about/a toy Rooster in advance

Say: Look at this animal. (Show a picture of Rooster.) It is called rooster. This is a bird. Remember, to be classified as a bird an animal should have a beak or bill, 4 toes on each foot, meaning to be zygodactyl.

The bodies of birds are covered with feathers. All birds have two wings and a tail.

Remember, all animals move! Wings help birds fly and soar. This bird is called Rooster. Roosters walk with a lofty pride known as strut; Let’s strut like a rooster!

Let’s find its beak, feathers, wings, tail and feet. It’s feathers play an important role. The male is larger and more brightly colored than the female. The males show off their colorful feathers to attract the females. Although roosters have feathers and wings, they only can fly very short distances.

Look at the body of rooster. It is very bright and colorful. Colors vary from brown, to red and black.

The face has comb and wattles. A comb is a fleshy growth on the top of the head. Wattles are the fleshy flaps of skin that hang from the rooster's neck.

The beak is small; it is curvy. It is a part of the body the bird eats and drinks water with. The bird uses it to peck at grains and worms!

Look at those claws! They are very sharp. Rooster scratches and digs the ground with them to look for food. Roosters are medium birds.

Remember that roosters are living things. They need energy to live. Roosters can eat worms, fruit, grain, seeds, insects, snails, acorns, slugs and many other foods. They are omnivorous. It means they eat both plant and animal-based food.

Mama-rooster is known as hen, it lays eggs. It usually lay 1 egg at a time. In order to have babies a hen should sit on eggs. The chicks can take a while from the time they break the shell, until the time they hatch out. Chicks need to be kept in a warm place until they are fully feathered.

That’s why mamas and papas take a very good care of the little ones. They provide food and make sure their environment is safe.

It is interesting that roosters can produce 26 different sounds. They vary their sound to talk to chick, hen and alert for predator.

Roosters live in a mild and warm climate. Since these birds are domesticated, they can be found on every continent but Antarctica. Vast majority of roosters are raised in factory farms for meat and eggs.

We need to take care of Roosters and treat them with respect because they are living things just like us, people.
